The island of Diu has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. As I kept reading travel stories about Diu in travel magazines and blogs, this idyllic location kept drawing my attention. Every new article increased my curiosity and I was looking for an opportunity to visit. Finally, this wish came true in early 2020 (right before the lockdown and the travel restrictions !) In a way, the happy memories of this place and a wish coming true, pulled me through the entire year spent indoors.
When I landed in Diu, I could barely contain my excitement. The charming little town did live up to my expectations. Clean, tree lined roads welcomed and accompanied us throughout the city. The beaches had their own mesmerizing beauty and the people were some of the best I have ever met. But the one place that had my complete attention is the magnificent Diu Fort. Easily, the most important landmark of the city, The Fort – with its rich history and captivating architecture – is where we spent the maximum time. Imagine standing on the ramparts of a nearly 500 year old Fort, with the sea on three sides and revisiting the history of the place. The experience was surreal and I plan to pen down the idyllic tale of my travel to Diu separately. For now, this photo essay is my attempt to hold on to and relive some of those memories.
